I do not have an iPod, but would love to be able to use an iTrip to transmit my iTunes playlist to a radio. Is it possible to be done with an iBook, the pictures I have seen of the iTrip look like it just slots in to an earphone jack? Or can you only use it with an iPod (in which case, is there iBook compatible hardware that would do the same thing as an iTrip?)

is this iPossible?

iThanks for the iHelp :p

No you can't:

The 2nd gen. iPod looks as though it only has a normal headphone jack, but in fact there is a ring around the normal jack that transmits power and information to the remote or to an iTrip.

That's why it doesn't need an external battery.

On later iPod's they replaced that design with a proprietary connector that sits to the right of the regular headphone jack. This connector supplies power and information.

So, it won't work on any device except the iPod...

Normal Fm Tuner devices such as the iRock or the belkin radio tuner would work, however they normally only have a few preset frequencies that you can select and require extra batteries.

But apart from that, they'd fit the bill.

Yeah, that is an option too, if you have an airport card in your ibook...

Costs a lot more than an FM modulator though...

Plus you could use the FM device in your car...
