I have the mini DVI to DVI adapter and the DVI to HDMI cable, but I can't figure out how to get the audio from my macbook to my tv and I don't have a sound system. I bought a Y cable which didn't work if anyone could help me out on this I would greatly appreciate it.

you cannot send audio through those connections - you need to connect a 3.5mm to composite cable (red and white) to your TV, or if there's a digital optical input, get a TosLink cable to go from the audio out on your Macbook.

The way I do it is to use the adaptor from Radio Shack. Stereo mini phone plug on one end for your headphone output on the Mac, and two RCA jacks on the other end for the TV's audio inputs.

I've tried the cables with the red and white ends and those don't work, there is a port on the back of my tv that says pc/hdmi 1(audio) but I'm not sure if it's digital or not. It is a single port and I think it's 3.5 mm.

I have not seen the '09 model Samsung, Toshiba models with this port - it should be a stereo mini-plug (3.5mm) from the pics I've seen in the manuals.

Should be able to find that cable at any local electronics dealer for $10 or less.

The video will need to be plugged into the HDMI 1 port.
