HDTV problem

i just bought a 1080p hdtv. i used the mini-dvi and the dvi to dvi to connect my macbook to my hdtv. the problem is there is a 2 inch black border on the right and left side. i have the resolution set to 1920 x 1080. i've been messing with this for about 2 hours and still cant figure this out. can anyone help?

Mirror or Extended Desktop? If Extended desktop, then you will need to set the resolution separately. If mirror, be careful because the MacBook is not designed to run at that resolution.

extended it will go to 1080i but i cannot figure out how to watch trailers or movies. when i put the movie/trailer in full screen it only shows on my macbook. also is there a way i can make it 1080p and not 1080i?

If you bought that Westinghouse in your other post:
make sure the Aspect Ratio is set to Fill
You can also try the Auto Adjust on the TV
Also, some TV's with regards to computers need to be turned on prior to the computer for it to display properly. I have had a couple of them. It might be an issue with this set, because the manual clearly states to turn the TV on first and then the computer.

You need to move the window of the movie to the monitor prior to going full screen with it.

If you are setting the resolution at 1920 x 1080 and at 60hz (= 60 frames per second), that is 1080p.
