Difference between DVD+/- R/RW

I went to go buy some DVD R's and realized theres quite a selection to choose from..

Whats the difference between DVD+R and DVD-R ??

I'll mostly be using them to burn my edited videos...

I'm using the new 20" iMac Superdrive.......

I think that the superdrive can only take dvd - discs and not the +.
thats what apple told me.
