Need help getting "Mail" on Mac Mini to work!

Hello,

I'm guessing this issue has a thread somewhere here but I'm new to this community and would greatly appreciate some assistance. My setup is a Mac Mini running 10.6.8.

I purchased my mini from a previous owner and am trying to get my iCloud mail to download/sync with the "Mail" app. I've tried a number of things to get this to work but it simply will not! I deleted the previous owner's information and went through the steps to place my account info. It will not sync up my mail!

WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE A STEP-BY-STEP...

iCloud requirements list 10.7.2 (Lion). I don't have an @me.com address, but I believe the 10.7 Mail client will recognize an address @me.com and automatically configure when you configure a new account.
