I purchased a macbook pro over the summer and so far the switch has been great. One thing I truly miss though is the absesence of a deleter key.

On PCs, the key that deletes one character back is 'backspace'

On Macs, it is called 'delete'

Macs are missing the extra key that PCs had that also allowed you to delete one character forward. Is there one that I am missing? Or is there a shortcut or anything? Please let me know, this component is sorely missed.

On my PowerBook and the iBook, there is a function key. Which is located in the lower left corner. I have not seen a MBP keyboard, so I don't know it it has one.

I use the function key and the backspace key to get the results you want.

Yes, the MacBook pro uses the Delete key as Backspace. Fn + Delete will act as a delete "forward" key.
