Part of my MacBook Pro Screen has become unusable. It's a pretty old machine and I've ordered a new one, but I need to go away on a trip with the broken one.

Is it possible to tell the display to only use part of the screen? Ideally displaying everything inside one resizable window (rather like happens with programs to run MSWindows on a MAC) would be prefect.

Can you just resize the windows? Or is the corner you need to grab not visible because of this problem?

Ok, your topic title adds information to your post... You're asking about the Desktop as well as open windows. I'm not aware of any way to shrink the Desktop and then display it on only one side of the screen.

Yes thanks I can do this (with a bit of difficulty finding the corner), but for example both the Waste Basket and more importantly Spotlight (which I rely on a lot) are on the unusable RHS of the screen.
