iSight external camera not working with iBook G4

A friend let me borrow his external iSight camera and I my iBook G4 does not recognize the camera or microphone. Most posts and my friends have said that it should just work when plugged in. Does anyone know what the issue can be? The lens is open and I've restarted the computer.
