iPhoto '08 searches External HD when opened?

24" iMac 2.4 Ghz 4GB RAM 320GB HD, 15" Macbook Pro 2.53 Ghz 4GB RAM 320 GB HDD
How can I stop this from happening, I would like iPhoto to just open at the Events Pane and not automatically search my connected devices.
