Hello and welcome to the forum; please provide more information: 1) MBPro model/year; 2) OS X installed; 3) How is your power saver setup (System Preferences > Energy Saver)? 4) What do you want to do w/ an USB port while the laptop is asleep? and 5) How do you know the USB port is not on & have you checked all of the ports? Answers to these questions might help members provide more specific suggestions. Dave

A wireless mouse can wake your Mac after it has gone to sleep. (just about any $10 - $15 mouse will work) Give it a few seconds to "sleep" then wake with mouse and you can use your USB peripheral after that.
