• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I have quite a few .mkv video files, and while I have the means to encode them into other file types the always lose the imbedded subtitles along the way!

Is there anyways for me to have subtitle options burned into my dvd using the imbedded files, or a way to overlay the imbedded subtitles in a different file format?

Do such programs come free, if not, how much? I don't mind paying a little bit to be able to put my videos onto a hard media I can watch on my new TV.

You can embed subs iinto many file formats in Handbrake, which is free.
What file format are you converting the MKV's to?

Doesn't really matter what file format as long as I can burn it to DVD.

So, handbrake does that? I thought it was for turning DVD codecs in compressed video file. I actually already have a version of handbrake.

Check what version of Handbrake you have, but yes, it does that if you want it to.
