Here's a bit of regional culture for you:

This is a traditional Bavarian Maypole being raised yesterday.
It was 33m tall and raised completely with human power (the mechanical arm is just there as a safety mechanism).

A friend of mine was helping to organise things and I was asked to help when it was about halfway up.
You basically push it up with the large beams you can see. Took 2,5h overall - but free Bavarian beer (1 liter mugs) and sausages made it worth it

It was kinda crazy - like a scene from a different era.
It was a bit freaky standing under that thing though... I mean you're holding on to a tiny twig of a tree holding up this huge gigantic behemoth hoping nothing breaks.
