Can anyone help me with the set up of my external monitor onto a MacBook Pro running 10.5.8?

I've got it working almost correctly, but I'd like the menu bars on the external monitor, not on the MacBook screen. Also, there are times that I'd like the MacBook screen to be 'blank'.

Many thanks in anticipation!

Have a look in System preferences - Displays

Thanks, I new how to adjust position of the screens in Displays but I only found out after posting that you can move the 'strip' at the top of the box representing the displays from one to the other, so moving the menu bar.

How about the other question, making the MacBook monitor turn off completely. Any ideas?

Close the lid of your MacBook. The display will remain on your external monitor.
