Ipod Nano 2nd Gen, WHITE SCREEN

My friend's nano has white screen and it wont go away, ive restored it and reset it, nothing, still white screen....
I read online its the white screen of death, is it done for?

Can you still play songs? Not in the sense of actually seeing anything or being able to navigate, but just hit the play button and see if anything plays.
