Memory limitation on 2006 macbook

Hey guys, I just received my first mac yesterday after using PC's for years. I know this may be a very old question but I am going to ask it anyway since I am new at this. I have a 2006 Macbook (2GHz Core 2 Duo, 160GB hd, 2GB ram, Snow leopard) and I would like to know is it possible to increase the ram to 4GB? I checked apples website and they say that it has a 2GB limitation but that could be old information. My laptop model is A1181 if that matters.

2g is it unfortunately even if you install more it would only recognize 2.

I believe this is your MacBook (A1181):

Yes it can be upgraded to 4 gigabyte of ram...but the computer will only recognize 3 gigabyte.

Yes indeed. If it is the "Core 2 Duo", you can put in 4GB, but it can only use 3GB (hardware limitation). The 4GB is said to maintain the dual channel capability of the machine. Whether it does or not, I dunno, but I did put 4GB in my MBPro - same vintage.

The previous model "Core Duo" limits out at 2GB
