FaceTime from iPhone to iPad

Hi, I'm trying to FaceTime my mom between my iPhone to her iPad. We can't figure it out. I've tried choosing FaceTime from her contact (which has her email stored) and she's tried inputting my phone # and email address.

So if you go to your Mom's details in your Contacts app and hit FaceTime... what happens exactly?

Thanks for the response. I actually figured it out. At first I was trying to FaceTime her through the text message app, where it says FaceTime at the top. Then I realized I needed to send it to her email, not phone number, (which is not available through the text message app) and I found that on her contact card. Then I realized you have to have it on WiFi not cellular data.
