So I defragmented my hard drive (files and disk) using Drive 10, and started Safari (1.0 v85.5) looked at a few web sites (CNN/BBC) and then reset Safari (clears cache/history/cookies) and then quit it. When I then re-analyzed the hard drive with Drive 10 there were 4 file fragments and 35 disk fragments. Why?

Maybe the program just reports anything so you feel you're getting your moneys worth.

Or probably it is because the websites you viewed were cached on the harddrive which might cause defrags.

Casual users don't need to be concerned about optimizing their HD, but there are environments that can/will benefit from the defrag maintenance. My usage is such, that after I optimize my HD's there is a I significant performance increase.

I've posted these links before… maybe it can be beneficial to some.

beaowolf, If you want to make an informed decision about when defragmenting can be beneficial, checkout the Apple article link and the Macfixitforums discussions links.

Apple's article 25668 explains when disk optimization could be benificial.
