Ok, in a vacuum, theoretically, is there a good, trustworthy, free defragmenting program for Snow Leopard?

Yes, but I do not see any defragmenting option. I read Apple's explanation, and as I understand it, repairing permissions is not the same thing as defragmenting, but I could certainly be wrong. Thanks!

Short answer: No. "iDefrag" is most often mentioned and recommended but it's not free.

Search through this entire forum and you'll find lots of info plus opinions regarding defragmenting OS X and whether it needs it or not.

Regards.

From my understanding, you do not need to defrag any mac with OS X 10.2 or later. From what I understand it happens automatically. Is there a reason you want to defrag or are you just curious?

Honestly just want to learn more. I do not plan to defrag.
