Mac Pro fans

There are a number of things that cause the fans to run like you are describing. In my experience, it is frequently caused by a defective memory module. The memory risers in the Mac Pro have LED's, that if lit, point to a bad stick. I'd start looking there.

If the LED's are not lit, I'd try running the Apple Hardware Test located on your original install disk.

Starting in Single User Mode can cause this and also check out System Preferences > Energy Saver > Options and make sure Automatic is selected as Processor Performance and not 'Highest".

I recall reading elsewhere about faulty thermostats in some Pros - 'cept I don't think they're called thermostats, more like heat controllers or regulators or something. HTH
