iMac Power PC G4 10.5.8
So I have an iMac powerpc g4 running mac os x 10.5.8 and I have a few questions about the os. I would like to completely re-install the entire os and start again from scratch but my computer didn't come with the disc so if I buy a new one, what should I get? I know that my computer won't support snow leopard but what will it support? Also, if I re-install the os, do I need a certain service tag code to register my copy of the OS like you have to on a PC? If so, where do I get this tag code? Thanks for the help fellow Mac lovers!~

Leopard is as high as you can go with a PPC Mac. So, you've already gotten as "far" as you can go. As for a serial number, OS X does not use them.

And if the machine is running slow consider download Onyx or a similar maintenance utility to give it a good clean. Here is the link:

Harry, that link is for the latest version, which requires Snow Leopard. The OP states OS as Leopard.

I tried about five sites the other day for Leopard compatible versions (3 of them, to be precise) and all the downloads timed out in about 10 seconds!

Download Onyx from the actual developers site. And versions for every OS X are there.

Reading over the post again, I wonder why it is that you want to "start over." Is there something wrong with your setup as-is? Re-installing the OS to solve a problem should be a last resort. I do think that you should have an install disc though so it might be wise to contact Apple and ask if you can get a restore disc shipped to you.

The eagle was part of a joke for a specific thread. Here's the thread. And yes, I have put up a more life like picture of yours truly. It is indeed a 5 o'clock shadow.

I like that a more life like picture makes me look younger. I'm still trying to figure out how I look friskier though... ;)

The Onyx 2.1.3 link at Apple states it is for both PowerPC and Intel.
