Network and internet problems

I have an imac and use airport to create a network in my house. From time to time the internet will not work or pages will load slow. My service is through time warner road runner. Also i have 2 pc laptops on the network and the network connection speed will drop from 56 to 36 to 18 to 2. Any suggestions on how to fix or what I am doing wrong.
