Probably a good idea for all of us to start learning and understanding what the new Apple File System is all about. Since it will be deployed in the latest version of iOS (10.3 currently in beta) and macOS Sierra (10.12.4 currently testing in beta), it will impact all of us.

The article doesn't explicitly say this, but once the newest version of Sierra is released, I imagine it isn't going to force everyone into APFS automatically..I use FileVault and if that's not supported, that's gonna cause issues..

Time Machine and Fusion Drives are also not supported in beta - absolutely got to be in any final version of APFS. So, it may roll out selectively?

Whether or not FileVault will be supported is still in question. Some rumors have it that we will "see" an entirely different form of encryption that will be supported by the new file system. Also, there doesn't seem to be a definitive opinion on whether or not the new file system will be mandatory if upgrading. Knowing the way Apple does things though, it won't surprise me if they give us no choice.

As the article mention's...the current HFS+ file system has been around since 1998 (almost 20 years). Something new might be kinda cool.:) Although maybe not exactly the most "sexy" computing feature on the planet!;)

As long as your iOS device is connected to WiFi, it will be backed up automatically to iCloud before downloading and installing the update to 10.3. That is standard procedure for all iOS updates.

iOS 10.3 has been out for some time now and is currently at 10.3.2.

As far as I know, there have not been any major problems and virtually everyone I've come across has found the new iOS to be stable, and many say quicker/slicker.
