Audio default problem with Mac Pro and Snow Leopard

I've connected external Bose speakers to the back of my Mac Pro tower and configured the sound options under "output" to use "built-in line output".

It works great until after I restart the computer and it reverts to the default Built-in output which is Internal Speaker.

This is a brand new computer, updated snow leopard and everything else is working great... any idea what i need to do to keep the selected output after a restart?

I have got the same problem, also upgraded to Snow Leopard and using Bose Speakers.

Mac Pro Default Sound Issue under Snow Leopard 10.6.1

I am having a similar problem with my USB Soundsticks under Snow Leopard 10.6.1. Every time I boot my MacPro, I have to change the Sound Preference Setting from Digital Out, which defaults to Built-In Digital Output, to my USB Soundsticks. This is definitely an issue with Snow Leopard, as I had no similar issue under Tiger.

I would appreciate anyone's feedback who has found a solution to this insignificant, but annoying problem.

I wonder how long does it take for Apple to notice those issues. Is there a place to submit issues like that to Apple?

Solution for Default Output Sound Issue for Snow Leopard

If you are having problems with your "default output" sound in Snow Leopard, try the following...

Go to your hard drive (root level), and open the Library folder. Then open the Preferences folder, and open the Audio folder.

Delete the two preference files contained in the Audio folder:
- com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist
- com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist

Reboot your mac, and hopefully your problems will be solved.

This solution worked for me, and hopefully it will for you too.

I missed one crucial step--step 2 below. So here's the procedure:

1. As JDLandry said,
Delete the two preference files contained in the Audio folder:
- com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist
- com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist

2. Now open Sound Preferences and set the preferences the way you want them.

3. Close Sound Preferences

4. Restart

That should do it.

Looks like Apple fixed it, I just restarted my Mac Pro and the default Audio is set to Line Out.
