I have a HP Scanjet printer, and even when it's not plugged in, the software is loading because I can see it when I type 'top' in the terminal. It's not a startup item, so I can't find it there.

Any idea how to remove it?

I suspect that it is a kernel extension. One of the reasons I now shy away from HP scanners/printers is that I found the same thing on Windows. Even if you are not using it, the software is always there, taking up memory, taking up CPU... annoying.

Now, how bad is it? What does the top command report? Is it using up much memory/CPU?
