I have an iMac (G4? with Intel Core Duo - about 2 years old). Lately once it's asleep or shut down, when I try to wake or restart it sounds like it's reving up but the screen stays black and the sleep light in front starts flashing on and off (very brightly) and won't start up. I usually have to keep trying to boot it up before finally it will. Any ideas on what might be going on?

This may be the problem. The ram could be going bad. (it would explain the flashing light)
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303083

"If the computer detects no SDRAM (Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory, also referred to as RAM) or the RAM installed does not meet the appropriate specifications, the screen will remain black but the power LED on the front of the computer will blink once per second to signal the error. This error condition may be due to physically damaged RAM, installing the incorrect type of RAM, or not having RAM installed."

Which iMac are you using?

This should help find your model.
