I have a generic USB-serial converter connected to my faithful old Hayes Accura V.92 modem. System Preferences sees this set-up as a Network Device and I can dial out to an ISP. But, so far, System Preferences won't recognise it as a fax device. I downloaded the osx-pl2303-0.3.1-110.4-universal.dmg but this just seems to duplicate the driver which appears to be used by the Network Device.
Has anybody successfully used such a USB-serial device to connect a modem as a fax device? Or is it strictly verboten to use anything other than the Apple device?
Cheers
