I'm using a G5 Dual 1.8 with the original optical drive (SONY DVD RW DW-U10A) and I'm having trouble using DVD-RW's. I've tried two brands with no
luck. In the past I've had some success with TDK but not now. It will still read
and write CD's and DVD's but not the RW's. Do I need a new drive or has anyone got a recommendation for DVD-RW's that have worked for you?

thanks----

G'day and welcome to the forums.

First question you are using -RW and not +RW discs, and Verbatim are generally pretty good, also Sony. Before forking out for a new drive try one of those DVD cleaners you can buy at PC shops in an attempt to clean the lens.

If you do need a new optical drive, look at a Pioneer as they are also pretty good.
