Customizing macbook pro

I am thinking about taking the optical drive out of my 17" macbook pro and installing a ssd drive with the Hard Drive Caddy Tray. My question is does anyone know of a case to put my optical drive in so that I would still have a optical drive if needed. I was wondering if I could install my optical drive out of the macbook pro into an Macbook Air Superdrive case has anyone tried this before. Sorry if this has been talked about before.

You can do a data doubler. But you lose your optical drive.

It makes room in your optical drive area and you can have your system on an SSD and then the other drive could be backup or your storage on it.

Sorry if I was not clear with my previous statement. I get that I am going to loose the optical drive in the computer. What I am wondering if anyone knows if I can use the optical drive that I take out in an external case, or if anyone knows where to purchase an empty Macbook Air Superdrive case ?

I don't know if there's an external case available to install an optical drive into from your MacBook Pro...but here's a deal on an external optical drive for $45 bucks:

OWC VLU2SD22XLS Value Line USB2.0/1.1 22X... in stock at OWC

An external housing for an optical drive will probably cost at least half that price if not more. There probably is a case available...just got to find it.
