I'm stuck on deciding between the Mac Pro and purchasing the Nvidia GeForce GTX 285 Mac edition or purchasing an iMac 27" i5 with an ATI Radeon HD 4850 for playing games at 2560x1440 resolution.

From anyone's experience or knowledge does the ATI card hold good frame rates at a high quality setting in most games at this resolution or does the 285 blow it out of the water and warrant the extra cost of the Mac Pro plus 30" screen.

Thanks for you opinion in advance!

If you want a gaming rig, I'd highly recommend a Win 7 box with the Core i7 and a ATI 5850 or 5870 right now. You could build one of these for half the price of a Mac Pro.

Mac Pro, GTX285, 30" ACD would be the best option - but it's an expensive gaming machine.

Bear in mind though, you can fit any PC graphics card out there into the Mac Pro and use that when booting into Windows for gaming. Downside is you'd need to use the 'Mac' card for OS X.

As Bob suggested though, you could get a PC and 30" monitor for much less than the Mac Pro...
