HI,
I have and early 2008 MacBook Pro and need a new hard drive. I read somewhere on the forum that it is best to replace with the same brand--is that true? I want a 500GB or 750GB hard drive.

Also, I am a leery of doing this myself--it looks WAY complicated on this particular MB Pro. What might be the best way to find someone to do this for me without going to a Big Box type store. Will order from OWC most likely.

Have Time Machine/Time Capsule---can I use that to restore my data to the new drive?

Thanks.
I have already upgraded to 4mg ram

I think OWC used to advertise a mail in service to replace/upgrade hard drives. You might check to see if this is (still-unless I dreamed this) true.

BTW: I wouldn't put any credence in the idea you have to do a brand for brand replacement.
