Removing Software

I downloaded some software to try and resolve a problem on my iMac ( loaded with OS Mountain Lion).

The software didn't work, and I want to uninstall it from my Applications. However, when I try to move it to Trash, I get a message that I cannot do so because the application is open. However, when I checked this, I could not find any trace of this application being open - it does not come up at all in Force Quit.

Can anyone suggest how I can remove this application from my computer?

Thank you

Start Activity monitor and check if you see a process in the list that looks like the application you want to remove. Kill the process!

Or restart your computer and try removing the app again.
