iPod update.. help!

I tried updating my iPod to my new MBP, but when it prompts me for a new iPod version, I try to do it and it gives me an option to update or restore and I don't want to restore it, but the update button isn't highlighted. I am not sure why it is not letting me update hte iPod. Please help, someone!

Are you using the same operating system as before (ie are you trying to update it on the Windows XP side whereas before the MBP you used OSX or vice versa?) I know the updater won't work if you are switching the ipod from a windows OS to OSX or OSX to Windows. It makes you do a restore so that it can reformat the file system on the iPod to whichever OS's native file system (journaled mac or FAT32).

Ah ok, yes I originally had my iPod on my PC. I guess I just have to restore it and wipe it out. Thanks for your help!
