Problem with mouse in Snow Leopard OS

Hi - I recently updated the operating system of my MAC MINI from Tiger to Snow Leopard, as well as upgrading my Microsoft Office for MAC from 2003 to 2008. Since I made these upgrades, my mouse will not let me double-click to open files, folders and programs. I have to right-click to "Open" anything. I have checked in the System Preferences for the mouse and all of my settings seem to be okay. Anyone have any suggestions!!:\
