I ordered my imac finally! Can't wait to get it. The guy told me that they no longer come with a modem, and will have to buy an external one. I only have dial-up available where I live. The trouble is, I am not sure which modem will work with an imac. Can someone help me please?

You may have a difficult time finding a modem that supports OS X. I just went through a bunch on Amazon (USB types) and none of them say they support OS X. Maybe someone on here can chime in and help you out but nowadays almost everyone has broadband.

You're saying that the phone company doesn't even provide DSL service?

Regards.

...in southern Ohio. That's amazing! Cable and satellite TV companies also offer high speed internet. Do you live on a house boat in the Ohio River??

why not opt for a usb mobile internet dongle through one of your countries mobile phone carriers?

will prob be faster than dial up - plus you can take your internet with you anywhere you go!

I use the Apple USB modem that Ivan linked you to, but it was discontinued late last year. If you can hunt one down, it works perfectly.

No cable here, it is within two and a half miles from me and the cable company has no plans to extend it to here. No DSL either, the phone lines are too old and won't support it. I can get satellite but the price is out of my budget. So for now I have to use dial-up.

I found a US Robotics modem that I hope will work on my imac. I read the reviews on it and some said it will not work with a Mac, and others said it works great. So I ordered it and am keeping my fingers crossed that it will work. The guy at the Apple Store said that US Robotics makes a modem that works on a mac.

I hope they get here soon, because I am ready to throw this pc out the window!!:Shouting::Shouting:

Man, i dont think i could ever go back to Dial-up.

Like "vinyl conflict" said, try mobile (cell phone) companies. You can get a USB adapter, and it will connect to the internet using cell phone service. Usually 3G and maybe even 4G. Which will be MUCH faster then dial-up.
