I have a 2006 Mac Pro, 2x2.66 Gzh Dual Core Intel Xeon with 10 Gb RAM. My question is can you upgrade a Mac Pro by installing a new processor or any other upgrade combinations?

Next question: If I am able to upgrade will the upgrade make it possible to install Mountain Lion?

TIA

Yes you can upgrade to Intel Xeon 5355 2.66GHz Quads and X5365 3GHz Quads. However the Mac Pro 1.1 and 2.1 models whilst having 64bit architecture, have 32bit EFI making Mountain Lion out of reach.

Keep an eye on forums such as MacRumours for work arounds.
