I hope this is the right forum.

I downloaded WindowsMediaInstaller on to desktop When I try to view a .wmv file I am asked to choose Application, so I click Choose App, a window comes up saying Recommended Application, but nothing available will open it .What am I doing wrong?

Click on Recommended Application to get a drop down menu, and select something like All Applications.

Ok I see, but shouldn't I be using what I just downloaded to open it? I selected all App and plenty of them have the option to open I think my understanding of how this works is all wrong.

Did you ever get Stuffit installed on your computer? You must have that to open the WindowsInstaller icon you have on the desktop...If you did then:

1. Double click on the WindowsMediaInstaller icon and it will open and show a Windows Media Installer app.

2.Double click on the Windows Media Installer app and it will open a box asking for your system password, enter your password and hit return

3. It will install the Windows Media Player to your apps folder.

4. Double click on the .wmv file and choose the Window Media Player in the list telling it to use this program for all .wmv files.

You did get Stuffit installed didn't your? your dead meat without it.
