Hello,
This is my first time on Mac Forums.
I signed up because I have a question that I have been asking my Mac buddies. But no one seems to know the answer. Hopefully someone on this forum can help me out. I don't have the start-up disc for my MacBook Pro G5, 2.0 Ghz, Core Duo 2. I lost my password because I went through a divorce and a few moves since. So the question is....
After re-formatting the hard drive, can I do an install with an OS X such as Lion and then change my password, so that I can then keep my Pro's system software updated? The other question that keeps running through my head is; can I even re-format the hard drive with out a password?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,

SifuGeorge

Welcome to the Mac Forums.

Let's get the nomenclature straight first: You have a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo not a MacBook Pro G5 as there is no such thing.

In order to do anything with the machine you need a start up - install DVD. I recommend purchasing Snow Leopard from Apple on line for $29.99 and using that DVD disk to change your password, erase the drive, and reinstall. Afterward, if you wish to upgrade to Lion you can do so by purchasing it from the Mac App store.
