restore and time machine

hi i have my MBP 17" unibody, leopard 10.6, i wanna format and reinstall it, but my question is if after i format and reinstall the OSX, can i still use my time machine for backing up, like mails, accounts, address book, etc.. instead of backing up in a external hard drive, can anyone help me out? because of my mails and address book are very important, so i need to know if i have to save it in an external hard drive or i still can use my time machine after formatting and re-installing the OSX.

also can anyone teach me how to back up the mail accounts, mailbox, smart mail box, etc..? thanks

Why do you want to format your hard drive and reinstall? Are you having some difficulty? Formatting and reinstalling is something that Windows users do all the time. If you need help with something, ask. That's what this forum is for.

yeah i wanna do it due to don't know why i can't resize my Hard drive, i think this will be the first time i do a re-install since my last upgrade

8 GB ram
1 TB Hard Drive

Resizing your hard drive? Do you mean that you wish to partition it? Adding partitions or removing them is easy enough but you must use Disk Utility when booted from your install DVD. You can not resize the drive while it's mounted. In other words, when it's up and running the system.

Also, before any resizing is done you should make a backup of your hard drive. Let us know exactly what you want to do.
