Is there an adapter for this and where do I get it? I'd like to use the bigger screen hooked up to my laptop. Eyes aren't what they used to be.

2001 iMac? You're going to have to provide a bit more detail about the two Macs..since the ages determine what types of connectors/cables you'll need to hook them up.
The iMac can definitely be used as an external monitor with the MBP..

First, your 2001 iMac has to have a video input port which I doubt yours has. However, with ScreenRecycler (free) you can do it with or without.

I don't think you're going to be very happy with the results no matter what you do there.
Monitors are super-cheap. Buy one.

2001 iMac? Like an original clear plastic bubble iMac? Why would you want to use that as an external monitor for your MacBook Pro? I'd make more sense to just decrease the screen resolution on your MacBook Pro.
Plus, being that old of an iMac, I don't think that has a video input option. Only a few of the newest models do.
