proper mpeg streamclip settings?

I'm converting .mod files (mpeg-2) into mp4 files. What's the best setting in mpeg streamclip? In particular, what frame size should i choose?
(1) 704x480 (unscaled)
(2) 854x480 (16:9)
(3) 720x480 (DV-NTSC)
(4) none of these

Will anything other than unscaled distort my video and thus lose quality? Would it be significant quality loss?

Does it even matter, as iMovie may distort / rescale the video if i edit it (the export options in iMovie seem to be limited in relevant part to 640x360 or 960x540).

Any help is much appreciated.

Yes, though option 3 is a small enough change that it's probably a non-issue.

You're already re-compressing a compressed format, so you're losing quality anyway. I better idea would be to convert to DV format (lossless) for editing.

No, this is incorrect. SD NTSC is exported at 720x480; the smaller numbers you refer to are the "TV Safe" area.
