requestin password when saving a document

Can any one tell me, why does my mac ask me for a password when i tried to save a documents once i open it? i have tried entering my administrative password but is not accepting it.. What password is it requesting, i never put a password to request permission
to save documents. can one one help me. i am clueless. it only ask me when i download a document and than when i want to save it the password windows pop up..
