"Other" Sucking up Memory

I have an iPhone 4 with the iOS 5 update and have synced it to a new iTunes library on a new macbook. All of a sudden there is 16.5 GB of "Other". How do I get rid of that. Where did it come from? I only have 38 Apps. Help me Help me please!!!

MacBook Pro 13" 2.5 Ghz i5 with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD.
The same thing happened to me on my iPod. You need to back up your phone, wipe it, and then manually drag everything back onto it. Do more researching first, but since it was just an iPod with songs on it, putting the songs back onto it wasn't a huge deal so I just wiped it.
