Hello all,

On our new last year iMac (10.8.5 late 2012)the volume buttons on the keyboard are no longer working as of a few days ago. Any idea what may have happened? In iTunes the apple key+ up or down arrow will adjust volume, but we were able to just use the volume keys on the keyboard above the number pad before, but not now. Nothing has been changed on the computer as far as settings. The volume is not adjustable outside of iTunes aside from the knob on the speakers. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried a 2nd keyboard? Could be a keyboard problem.

Try resetting the SMC (System Management Controller) on your iMac. Real easy to do:

Shut it down completely. Remove the AC plug from the outlet, let it set that way for about 15 minutes. Plug the AC back in and restart. If that doesn't work, try resetting your NVRAM. See the following Apple Article: LINK

And lastly, if neither of the above works, make an appointment with your local Apple genius bar. If you purchased Apple Care, the repairs will be free.
