I am brand new to Mac and brand new to these forums. What a great resource! I have learned so much by reading these posts, thank you.

Question: Can I install iLife '11 right on top of iLife '09 (i.e. without uninstalling it)?

Thanks.

Yes that's what I did and it works just fine.

I'm still on iLife '08. I know that upgrade from '06 just replaced the existing apps. Still do the same thing?

Bob: what are you waiting for? iLife 11 is great. In particular, iMovie 11 is a vast improvement on iMovie 08.

Yes, the new install just overwrites the old install.

Thank you for your help guys; worked flawlessly. Just a note to other Mac newbies (like me!) who may find themselves in the same situation - I read elsewhere in these forums, that immediately after installing iLife '11 you should do a Mac software update to get iPhoto '11 to work properly.

I am loving my new iMac! I will never buy another Windows machine again. I wish I could have afforded a MB in med school.

About a year ago, I ditched my Blackberry for the iPhone and I have never looked back.

Well, I don't use any of those apps now, so didn't really see the point of upgrading them.

Plus, this thing is over 4 years old. The last computer that made it even 2 years as my primary machine was my Commodore 128. None of my DOS/Windows machines ever made it even close to 2 years. So, I keep thinking I'll go get a new one. But, this one just keeps on doing what I need it to do. And after my last hard drive upgrade, it boots in 19 seconds, is as fast if not faster than when I bought it, so... (Of course, it probably helps that I am not the gamer I once was and have a PS3 for when I need that fix.)
