Hi.
I have a Macbook pro (5,5) 13" I would like to connect to a Samsung TV (UE40D5005). Does anybody know how I do that and get both picture and sound?

Your Mac's Specs
15" MBP '06 2.33 C2D 4GB 10.7; 13" MBA '14 1.8 i7 8GB 10.11; 21" iMac '13 2.9 i5 8GB 10.11; 6S
That adapter is way too expensive when you consider that the MBP 5,5 does not have the capability of passing audio through it's mdp.

I'd suggest you start off here, post # 3 along with your owner's manual. If you need some help from there, post back.

Sorry, but you should check which MBP the op has. Per their post, it is the 5,5. That model does not have a thunderbolt port. It is an '09 model and was discontinued spring of '10.

The thunderbolt port was not introduced until this year's models.
And the MBP mini displayport did not support audio until the April '10 models.
You may want to check out the first post in the link I provided above.

my bad! i was thinking 5 5 was the most recent ones with thunderbolt. disregard my earlier post.

this should do the trick but its very pricey

NewerTech NWTCBLMDPHDMID Mini DisplayPort+Digital... in stock at OWC

I have the earlier MBP 10.6 Snow Leopard, (Got it in '07, the one with the removable battery..) I'm trying to do the same thing as the OP, would I have to get the that thing in the link above? or is there a wire of some sort that I can connect it to? Somebody told me I needed a VGA or something Wire which I did but I still can't connect it to my TV. Anymore info would be greatly appreciated!

bobtomay thanks for the link. I got it working perfectly with a converter from the mini displayport to HDMI and getting the sound through a mini-jack to mini-jack cable, so actually quite simple ones I got it set up :)
