I am producing advertisements purely in Photoshop 7.0 in system 10.3.7 and the specs for the magazine require Acrobat Distiller 4 pdf's in an x1a format.

I use Distiller 6, so I assume they mean "at least Distiller 4". But my question is: Is there a way to make an x1a pdf directly in Photoshop 7 without bringing it into Quark 6 and making a .ps file first? I thought I could just send them a Photoshop 7 pdf, but I realize in order to get x1a, I have to do it through Quark by first making a .ps file and then dropping that into Distiller with x1a selected.

Am I doing this correctly? Also, do I have to be concerned with trapping if I produce the artwork in Photoshop?

Thank You for any help. Also, can anyone recommend a link on pdf production?

hmm, you can save as a photoshop pdf, but thats not x1a compatible. so I believe the only way is through quark, of course if you used indesign, its pdf's require no distilling or converting, nor do illustrators. so you have to go through quark.
