convert AVI audio to edited MP3?

Hi there,

Does anyone know an easy way to convert the audio from an AVU file into an MP3 and then to cut the lenght of the MP3 track to a particular section of it?

I've a Macbook Pro with Garageband etc. but I've also Final Cut Express with Soundtrack. can it be done on any of these?

MPEG Steamclip can do that, well export to MP4 anyway)

Once done Audacity will let you edit the sound and trim it down to the part you want, then export an MP3
