new mac ibook owner questions

i'm on day 4 of weening myself off of pc life and
teaching myself about this ibook g4.

during the first 3 days i thought the speed between
programs and page loads using safari was painfully
slow. i realized i.e. was in my applications folder
and tried that all yesterday. same issues.

then i saw that i could go to the energy saver icon
on system preferences and switch the speed from
"custom" to "highest performance". mon dieu!
it was night and day; i am back to instant dsl
page loads that i've been familiar with on my dell
laptop.

my question is this: as long as i'm on ac power, does the
"highest performance" have any neg affects on the appliance?
i see that on battery, it'll drain it more quickly. but on
ac? can anybody chime in with an opinion?

thanks for helping.

No problem at all leaving the setting at "Highest Performance". As you said, it will drain the battery more quickly when unplugged, but with the A/C adapter that's obviously not an issue.

thanks, everybody, for the replies.
as far as default settings go, i think the default was
set to "custom" before i started my sleuth work. dis-
covering the "highest performance" feature was a
god-send, but i never went to the energy saver feature
before i switched speeds, so i think the puter arrived
here set to "custom". regardless, i think the issue
is solved. as more questions arise, i'll ask here on
the forum.
take care.

like i said, i was at first very disappointed with the slow speed,
and i had airport extreme along w sbc dsl; switching to "highest
performance" speed made a 180 degree difference!
