My airport express only has one ethernet port. This is the one I will use to connect to the modem. I want to wire my desktop to the router though. Can I use an ethernet hub and conncet it to the airport single slot?

Please respond.

Yes. Any Ethernet switch or hub that supports 100Mb will work to expand the number of available connections on the wired side of your network.

Sorry for being a pain. But do I need to use the software that comes with the switch or hub, or just connect it as is? I rather not use the software if its possible. Am I correct in assuming this works like a cable tv splitter?

Yes, you should be able to. I've never installed anything with a hub and mine works just fine. As long as the airport is set up to assign internal IP addresses you will be ok.
