flash problems ANY browser

Hi

I have flash installed and working on Safari, Firefox and Opera. Flash heavy sites really cause the computer to overheat.

If I use my webcam as well for VOIP or flash chat rooms I get kernel panics.

latest versions of browsers, flash etc and cam drivers.

iMac G5 PPC 1.8, 2 Gb mem OSX 10.4.11

On the dustbin find Mac mini I don't get these problems.

Any clues?

The three browsers you've mentioned are processor-hungry, FFox in particular. If you check Activity Monitor while you're using Flash, you'll see what I mean. I don't use it, but I have heard that Opera is the 'leanest' of the three.

Two things I have done, and can suggest:
1. Use a lighter-weight browser, eg. Camino (Mozilla). It copes just fine with Flash*, and it doesn't have all the bells & whistles that hog the processor,
2. Quit all other applications when using a browser.

Does Camino not identify itself as Mozilla? I know it uses Gecko (much like Firefox) and I thought it used the same version as FF 3.

Apparently not. Like you, I thought the Gecko engine would be supported, but there's something not included in its internals that YT seems to think it needs.

Down here we say "b.... if I know". With my current G3 iMac, I cannot view some (quite a lot actually) videos, not that I'm trying too hard, 600 MHz ain't the best at rendering.

I'm not abandoning Camino just on YT's rejection of it though.

Check this out- it could help - i use it and at times i have to load some flash 'To Copy' for example, but it is nice not having to deal with all the extras;

To the OP: note that ClickToFlash is Safari only. If you're looking for something for Firefox, check out FlashBlock.
